Spouses and Airplanes

We got the bill for the annual. (The aircraft's annual, to be precise.) Ouch. I knew it was going to be bad, and it was a little (but not much) worse than expected. Still, seeing the number was like a fist to the gut - ah, the joys of airplane ownership.

Fiscal matters are at the heart of many a couple's fights, and money is usually the obvious breaking point between many a wife's mock-jealous sufferance of her husband's "other woman - that airplane." and her determination that it needs to stop competing for money, time, and affection. (And threat to her spouse's life?)

So when Calmer Half and I discussed how to settle the bill, and what we could reasonably afford in terms, he reached forward and gently grabbed my shoulders. "With the amount of money that plane is costing us..." He took a breath, and I thought, well, here comes the typical your darned plane fight, "...I want you to fly that thing every chance you get!"

*blink* *blink*

Did I mention I adore this man?

I would agree with both his conclusion and yours. :) Enjoy that piece of history while treasuring it for what it is.

p.s. And write about it, so I can ride along vicariously.

This might ring a chord.

Rev & Jenny - will do. :-)

DaddyBear - takes one to know one, eh?

SportPilot - thanks!

NFO - will do!

RagDragger - heh, no. We enjoy other people's children, including introducing kids to their first airplane ride, their first tannerite target at the range... You know, what is good in life.

Comrade Misfit - a very familiar chord, indeed, though that maligns my IA - he put a lot of work and care into the plane. And my plane has larger tires.

My SO and I have been married the better part of a score. We still have separate bank accounts and this is part of the reason why.

She doesn't see what I spend on the airplane, and I don't see the wasteful things she spends money on.

No fights this way.

Comrade - I am so stealing that picture collection!

And I concur with our host, it seems in aviation there is little relation between the quality of the inspector and the price charged. Same goes for CFIs.

Some of the best have charged the least in both cases. (And vice versa).

You may never know how many of us get to fly with you, see what you see, and experience what you are able to share with us.
Thank you, and fly much!
